The latest video games on today's market require powerful and expensive gaming rigs, due to modern graphics, animations and effects. If you want to know exactly where your computer stands in terms of processing power and the ability to play cutting edge animations seamlessly, 3DMark 11 can help you. It relies on a huge database, with millions of benchmark results, to let you know how powerful is your machine, in relation to others.

The program comes in free and paid versions and it is available for Windows PCs and for Android, iOS and Windows mobile devices. Downloading and installing 3DMark 11 will take some time, due to the large size of the setup package (over one and a half GB). The good news is that you won't have to make any complex settings along the way.

3DMark 11 uses several high quality animations to benchmark a computer. They are presented on a clean and simple user interface, along with various details on how they are meant to test your machine. You can play each animation separately, by hitting the Run option next to it, but you can also play all animations, one after another, in a single run.

A benchmark test involves stressing a computer with high quality and very detailed animations. As mentioned on the interface's welcome screen, you may notice a frame rate drop while the animations are playing, which is normal, because 3DMark's tests are quite demanding. The animations contain high-res textures, high quality particle illumination, large shadow maps, a huge rendering resolution and more. The interesting part is that 3DMark 11 allows you to tweak these characteristics for each animation.

Playing one or all animations is all you have to do. When it is done playing, the program will display the benchmark results on the same user interface. They include a wide range of in-depth system details and interactive performance graphs. What's more, you can view the results of other users, on the Internet, if you wish to compare your computer. It is also possible to view a hall of fame for each animation, if you wish to know what the best gaming rig looks like.

Pros

You only need to play one or more animations to benchmark your computer's performance. The program allows you to play each animation with custom graphical settings.

Cons

The free version comes with some limitations. 3DMark 11 can give you the best proof that your computer is a high end gaming machine or an obsolete piece of junk.
